COLORADO SPRINGS – Twice forced to play from behind, Colorado School of Mines softball withstood multi-run frames by host Colorado Colorado Springs and Fort Lewis, but were ultimately turned back by the finals of 4-2 and 7-6 on Saturday at Mountain Lion Field.

Freshman Hallie Smith (8-17) tied her season-high eight strikeouts and held the Mountain Lions (15-23, 13-18 RMAC) to only three hits, but subdued timely hitting – Mines stranded six runners in scoring position – squandered the 6.0-inning complete game performance.

The Orediggers (10-33, 8-21 RMAC) were led by the 2-for-3 line of junior Elise Dugwyler, while freshman Pua Fujinaga accounted for both RBI on her initial collegiate home run in the sixth, closing 1-for-3 with a run.

FLC (14-16, 12-17 RMAC) began game two with four runs in the top of the first and stalled three separate Mines comeback bids, each time leaving the Orediggers down one.

Freshman Sonoma Toot had two of the team's five RBI behind a 1-for-3 effort, scoring two on her team-leading 12th double in inning one.

Sophomore Paige Noehring batted 3-for-5 with a sixth-inning RBI single for her fifth three-hit game and 16th multi-hit line. Dugwyler had her second straight 2-for-3 outing, adding one double, one run and a walk.

Senior Cassie Ford (1-for-4) and sophomore Angela Eickelman (1-for-2) each collected one RBI.

The women end the weekend pod Sunday, beginning tentatively at 12 p.m. against the Skyhawks.
