LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Boosted by a seven-run sixth, Colorado School of Mines softball rolled to a 12-6 regular season finale win and twinbill split at New Mexico Highlands on Sunday at Brandt Fields in Las Vegas, N.M.
The Orediggers sent 12 to the box in frame, growing the lead to 12-4 with the seven runs on five hits, three walks, one hit by pitch and an error. Senior Cassie Ford and freshman Pua Fujinaga accounted for three of the RBI with consecutive two-out doubles to the gaps.
Mines preceded the at-bat with four runs in the fifth behind five hits and the fourth of five Cowgirls errors.
Ford and Fujinaga led the women with two RBI apiece; Ford swung 3-for-5 with a run, ending her career third in the team record book in doubles (44) and RBI (139), while Fujinaga went 1-for-4 with a sacrifice.
Sophomore Paige Noehring added her third multi-hit line of the series and team-leading 21st on the season, continuing her hitting streak to seven straight at 2-for-5.
Sophomore Jackie Vasquez and freshman Brielle Asato each had two-hit, two-run games, going 2-for-4 and 2-for-2 with two walks, respectively. Freshman Sonoma Toot (1-for-2) and junior Elise Dugwyler (1-for-4) collected one RBI apiece.
Junior Kristen Prudhomme (3-13) recorded the complete game decision, surrendering five earned on 10 hits and two walks with one strikeout.
NMHU (22-26, 16-19 RMAC) rallied back from 3-0 in game one with five runs in the fourth to clinch its first RMAC postseason berth since 2005.
The Orediggers close the 2015 season 11-38 overall and 12th in the conference at 9-26.
