How It Happened
Mines poured in 21 shots including nine on goal, but was frustrated in a 1-0 loss to No. 22 St. Edward's in their home opener.

The Orediggers led 21-5 on shots overall including 15-2 in the second half but couldn't crack Hilltoppers goalkeeper Lorrie Santoy, who worked a nine-save shutout.

Katie Donahue's 23rd-minute free kick was the only goal of the game, slotting it home from a right-side angle. The Orediggers were not without their chances; Haley Cole rang the crossbar just before halftime then went inches over the bar early in the second.

SEU played the final seven minutes down to 10 women after Jennifer Boudreau earned a straight red for an after-the-whistle challenge, but Mines couldn't take advantage despite a point-blank chance by Ali Artzberger to force a terrific Santoy save and a dangerous free kick opportunity for Emily Garnier.
