The Colorado School of Mines (7-2, 1-0) volleyball team got its RMAC campaign off to a dominating start by defeating S.D. School of Mines & Technology (2-7, 0-1) by the final of 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-15) on Friday, September 18 at Lockridge Arena. CSM established early on that it was the superior side by only trailing by one point which was the first point of the second set.
Mines jumped out to an early 13-4 lead opening frame as five different Orediggers notched at least one kill during the run. The period also saw freshman Janice Jin drill four kills on eight attempts without committing an error.
While dropping the opening point, the Orediggers quickly reasserted their dominance and by the end had pulled away for a commanding 25-18 set two win. Junior Alanna Winfield and senior Megan Peterson were special in the frame with seven and six kills, respectively.
Smelling blood, Colorado School of Mines laid the hammer down in the final frame to demolish the Hardrockers, 25-15. Winfield again led the way with another seven kills to her credit, and senior Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood dished out 16 assists.

- Mines was completely dominant in attack as they drilled 47 kills on an impressive .313 attacking percentage.
- Winfield paced that attack with a match-high 16 kills on a game-high .343 clip.
- Senior Frannie Cormier and Peterson were right behind with 10 kills apiece.
- Cormier was also the lone Orediggers player with a double-double (10K, 10D).
- For the seventh time this season, Johson-Hazlewood hit the 40-assist plateau with 41 on the night.
- CSM only won the block battle, 6-5, but SDSMT also had four blocking errors.
