W. Soccer Wins Third Straight With 1-0 Westminster Victory

How It Happened
Colorado School of Mines extended its win streak to three games, using Haley Cole's second-half goal to beat Westminster 1-0 on Sunday.

The Orediggers improved to 4-2 and 2-0 to start RMAC play thanks to Cole and a superb defensive effort that yielded Mines' third straight shut out and fourth of the season.

Cole hit in the 66th minute when she got open in front of goal for Acacia Ortiz's corner to fall to her right foot. The finish was easy for the sophomore to score her first of the season.

Notables
- The Griffins actually outshot Mines 10-8, but the Oredigger defense allowed only two to get to Sam Zumbro, who stopped both for the clean sheet.
- Zumbro and the defense lowered their GAA to 0.50 this season. The junior goalkeeper has a .875 save percentage over six games.
- Caitlin Kaltenbaugh led Mines with three shots, all in the first half. Taylor McRae had a couple of attempts, and Ortiz, Laya Rybicki, and Cole added shots.
- Ortiz's assist was the first of her career. The freshman has two goals and a helper this season and leads Mines with five points.
- It was the first-ever RMAC meeting in any sport between CSM and Westminster. The Griffins achieved NCAA Division II provisional membership and an invitation to the RMAC over the summer.- Mines led 4-2 on corners.

Mines stays local next weekend in RMAC play, visiting Regis Friday, Sept. 25 and MSU Denver on Sunday, Sept. 27.
