Box Score How It Happened
Nationally 12th-ranked Colorado School of Mines (9-3, 3-1) volleyball rebounded from its first conference loss to defeat CSU Pueblo (4-9, 2-3) by the final of 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 27-25, 25-19) in a see-saw affair on Saturday, September 26 in Pueblo, Colorado.
Mines was able to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the opening set behind the strong attacking of junior Alanna Winfield. They kept that advantage until the Thunderwolves finally clawed back to tie the period at 19, but a pair of kills from senior Megan Peterson and final kill from senior Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood capped the frame.
The Orediggers fell behind by as much as 17-7 in the second set before coming back to square things at 19. The large comeback may have taken some gas out of them as CSUP held on for a 25-22 victory to tie the match at one game apiece.
Set No. 3 appeared as though it would go to the exact script as the second set, but the Orediggers comeback this time stuck as they gritted their way to a hard fought 27-25 victory. Trailing 22-19 late in the frame, CSM got three kills from Frannie Cormier to dig out its hole and take a 2-1 lead.
Mines carried the momentum of that thrilling comeback into a comfortable 25-19 win in the fourth set to close out the game.
