Mines vs. Fort Lewis, Sunday, 12 p.m. [Live Stats] [Video]
Mines returns home as they welcome in Adams State and Fort Lewis to Golden for a key RMAC weekend.
LAST WEEKEND REWIND
The Orediggers headed west and went 1-1 on the weekend which included a 4-1 blowout of Westminster in Salt Lake City. In that victory, Mines got goals from
Nikolaus Grotz,
Ashi Geberkidane,
John Haist and
Trevor Amann.Â
UNLIKELY HERO
The real story for Mines in that win was what happened in goal. With injuries to the top four goalies on the team, Mines was in desperate straights this past Sunday at Westminster. Problem to that solution? Insert reserve redshirt-freshman midfielder
Julian Kehe. Having not played the position since he was 14 years old, all Kehe did was come in and make six saves (some highlight-reel worthy ones at that), concede only one goal and help the Orediggers to a huge victory.Â
IN THE STANDINGS
Mines currently sits in a two-way tie for fourth in the RMAC after four weeks of league play. The Orediggers sit on 16 points (5-2-1 record) which ties them with MSU Denver. #24 Colorado Mesa is at the top of the standings with 22 points while #9 Regis (19 points) and UCCS (18 points) are in second and third. Fort Lewis is in sixth-place with 15 points.Â
STATISCIAL RANKINGS
The Orediggers remain as the RMAC's top scoring club with 2.231 goals per game for the season. With a 0.75 goals against average, Mines is also has the highest margin of victory at 1.48.Â
BREAKOUT FRESHMAN
Trevor Amann continues to be one of the league's top goal scorers with an impressive eight on the season. The Westminster, Colo. native is third in the league in goals scored and in points (18). His latest goal came this past Sunday when took a
John Haist assist in a 2v1 situation and buried in Mines' fourth goal of the day at Westminster.
THE SERIES
Mines holds a commanding 10-1 lead in the all-time series against the Grizzlies. Last season, the Orediggers scored a 2-0 victory in Alamosa with goals from
Richard Garvey and
Ryan Leach. They then got a tight 1-0 victory the very next weekend at home when Garvey again nailed the game winner.Â
The Orediggers don't hold the lead against Fort Lewis as they trail all-time by the record of 17-28-7. Last season saw Mines and the Skyhawks meet three times with the two regular season encounters ending in draws. The final meeting came in the RMAC Tournament Semifinal where the Orediggers blasted the visiting Skyhawks, 6-2.
SCOUTING ADAMS/FORT LEWIS
Adams State has already doubled their win total from a year ago as they make their way to Golden with a 4-8 overall (1-7 RMAC) record. The top threat for the Grizzlies is senior Symon Fabbricatore who has scored five goals and added in two assists for a team-high 12 points.Â
Fort Lewis comes in only one point behind Mines in the RMAC standings with a 5-3 league record and a 6-6 overall mark. While the Skyhawks average two goals a contest, they nearly concede that total (1.67) as well. Salifu Jatta (3g, 5a) and Churchill Onumonu (5g) pace the team with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Elliot Chadderton is team's top option in goal with a 1.54 goals against average mark and a .615 save percentage.Â
