How It Happened
#22 Colorado School of Mines bounced back in a big way with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-14) sweep at UCCS on Saturday, October 22 at Gallogly Events Center.
Mines (16-5, 10-2) rebounded from last night's loss by flexing its muscles at UCCS (12-8, 7-5) behind a strong a collective hitting (.276) and blocking (13) outing.
Tied 14-14 in the opening set, Mines broke the frame open with a quick 4-0 run, with a pair of kills from
Janice Jin, to finally take the lead for good. From there, the Orediggers cruised to a 25-19 victory.
Ellie Monarch was the catalyst of that opening set with five blocks to hold the Mountain Lions to .136 hitting.
The second played out to a similar theme as Mines broke a 10-10 tie and stretched it into a 20-13 lead in the blink of an eye. That key run was aided heavily by five attacking errors from UCCS with two of them coming by blocks from Mines.
Now, already up 2-0 in the match, the Orediggers jumped on Colorado-Colorado Springs early and often in the final frame, and never let up. Mines hit .355 as a team and got four kills from
LaRose Currie to cruise to the 25-14 win.
