CHASING A TITLEÂ Â
The race for the RMAC Championship comes down to the final weekend of the season, with Mines and CSU-Pueblo tied on 24 points and Regis lurking behind on 22 points. If Mines wins out, they would claim at least a share of their fourth consecutive title; if Pueblo also wins their two games, it would be a shared crown and the #1 seed would go to Pueblo based on the Thunderwolves' head-to-head win over the Orediggers. In any event, Mines will host an RMAC Tournament quarterfinal on Wednesday, Nov. 2 before the semifinals and final head to the highest remaining seed on Nov. 4 and 6.
IN THE RANKINGS
Mines remained ranked #10 in the NSCAA Top 25 poll this week, and more importantly stayed atop the NCAA South Central regional rankings for the second straight week. Mines (14-2) heads the regional rankings with Texas A&M-Commerce (12-4), St. Edward's (12-1-1), and CSU-Pueblo (11-3-0) behind.
THE SERIES
Mines and Fort Lewis will meet for the 20th time with the Orediggers holding an 11-7-1 series advantage. Mines has won seven straight dating back to 2013. Mines is 9-1-1 all-time against Adams State and is unbeaten in their last 10 meetings.
LAST YEAR
Mines lost its regular-season meeting with Fort Lewis, 2-1, but gained its revenge over the Skyhawks in the RMAC Tournament final with a 1-0 win.
Haley Cole scored both of Mines' goals against Fort Lewis. The Orediggers handled Adams State 5-0 during the regular-season on a brace from
Brooke Stoermer and goals from Cole,
Mel Westhoff '16, and
Deirdre Johnson '16.
MINES QUICK LOOK
The Orediggers are 14-2 overall and 8-2 in RMAC play. Mines possess both the top scoring offense (2.53 goals per game) and scoring defense (0.52 goals allowed) in the RMAC. Mines is co-led in scoring by
Taylor McRae and
Jaclyn Knott, each with six goals, while
Emily Garnier leads the team in assists (7) and points (17). Defensively
Sam Zumbro has a .786 save percentage and 0.59 GAA along with six full shutouts.
SCOUTING FORT LEWIS AND ADAMS STATE
Both Fort Lewis and Adams State are battling for playoff positions, with Fort Lewis currently seventh at 16 points and Adams State occupying the eighth and final RMAC Tournament slot with 13 points, one ahead of Colorado Christian. Fort Lewis is 6-6-2 overall, scoring 1.5 goals per game and allowing 1.07. Alicia Sanchez (6G, 2A) and Shayla Malecki (5G, 2A) have powered the offense. Britt Blomso (0.81/.872) and Kaylee Mickens (1.19/.750) have split starts in net. Adams State is 7-6-1 scoring 1.64 goals per game and allowing 1.14. Playmaker Shelby McBain is second in the RMAC with nine assists, with Lacey Daniel's four goals leading the Grizzlies. Teagan Moore has played every minute in net with a 1.11 GAA and .822 save percentage.
