Mines Ends Regular Season With 3-0 Win

GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines ended its regular season on a high note, shutting out CSU-Pueblo 3-0 at home.

The Orediggers (10-5-3 / 9-3-2 RMAC) temporarily go to second in the RMAC table with 29 points, but could be vaulted on Sunday by Regis (28 points) and/or UCCS (27 points), who each have one game remaining. Mines did, however, assure themselves of staying at home for the quarterfinals if they do not receive the second seed, and would play Wednesday at a time to be announced if that is the case.

Trevor Amann got the goals going in the 42nd minute, netting his 13th of the season on a beautiful set piece. Nikolaus Grotz flicked the free kick to him 30 yards out from goal, and Amann blasted a low shot through traffic and into the net.

John Haist got a deserved goal at 53' with a lobbing header served up by Grotz, and Preston Migaki scored his first of the season thanks to Mans Hofvander at 75', finishing off a 3-on-1 break with a chip to the far post.

NOTABLES
- Grotz moved into a tie for second all-time on the Mines assist lists with 32. The junior is only one away from matching Tesho Akindele's program record of 33.
- Mines improved to 32-9-4 all-time over the Thunderwolves. They also beat Pueblo 3-0 on the road back on Sept. 18.
- The shutout was Leo Chely's seventh of the year, but the freshman did not have to make a save while collecting several dangerous crosses. Jason Zobott preserved the shutout with a clearance off the line in the second half.
- Haist was the danger man of the match with six shots. Amann had four.
- Mines led 18-9 on shots including 9-3 in the first half. Pueblo had only one shot on goal.

NEXT UP
Mines will learn its RMAC Tournament assignment after the conclusion of RMAC regular-season play on Sunday afternoon. Should Mines be the #3 or #4 seed it would host a quarterfinal on Wednesday, Nov. 2; if Mines holds onto the #2 seed it would receive a bye to the weekend, which will be hosted at Colorado Mesa.
