Monarch, Behr Lead #22 Mines To Senior Night Win

GOLDEN, Colo. - A huge hitting night by Ellie Monarch and blocking performance from Madeline Behr helped #22 Colorado School of Mines overcome a slow start to beat Regis, 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20).

The win represented Mines head coach Jamie Skadeland's 200th career victory. The Orediggers (18-5, 12-2 RMAC) hit .302 for the match as they avenged a five-set loss to the Rangers (14-10, 9-6 RMAC) from earlier this month. Monarch turned in 18 kills (career-high) and hit .552 to lead a potent offensive attack, and Behr recorded an unconventional double-double with 10 kills and 10 blocks (career-high). LaRose Currie also pitched in 11 kills, and Alanna Winfield had eight kills with three blocks.

The Orediggers had a forgettable first set as Regis won 25-20, capitalizing on Mines hitting .000 with 10 errors. But after that Mines caught fire, going error-free with a blistering .565 clip to win set 2 25-16 and .452 with only a single miscue in the third to win 25-20.

In the fourth, Mines got out to an early lead but Regis tightened it to 20-18; a Ranger error and Behr's error quickly flipped things around, and Ashlyn Eitemiller had the final two kills to seal the win.

Regis was held to .176 hitting as Mines totaled 13.0 blocks. Marina Hansen had 50 assists, for a second consecutive night, to power the Mines offense, and Taryn Huber led the Orediggers with 15 digs.

After the match, Mines honored its five seniors in the Class of 2017, recognizing Alanna Winfield, Ashlyn Eitemiller, Taryn Huber, Johanna Boyer, and Samantha Fischer.
