IN THE POLLS
Mines slipped to #7 in this week's NSCAA Top 25 poll after suffering their first loss last weekend. Mines owns two wins over top-25 opponents – vs. #8 UC San Diego and #24 Dallas Baptist – this season.
IN THE STANDINGS
Mines is tied atop the RMAC standings with Fort Lewis with 12 points. Westminster is lurking just behind with 11 points.
NONE SHALL PASS
Through the first half of the season, Mines has had one of the nation's most dominant defenses, allowing three goal in 10 games. The Orediggers are ranked sixth in NCAA D-II in goals-against average (0.29) and third in shutout percentage (.800).
EVERYBODY GETS A TURN
Twelve different Orediggers have scored a goal this year, already one higher than last year's total. Mines' distributed production included a team-best four goals for
Emily Townsend, three for
Taylor McRae, and two each for
Emily Garnier and
Nicole LaTourette.Â
WAIT FOR IT…
Mines is 9-1, but that doesn't mean they didn't make some of those wins a little extra exciting. Four of Mines' nine game-winning goals this season have come in the 83rd minute or later, on strikes by
Taylor McRae (85' at Cal State San Bernardino),
Kortney DesCamp (86' at UC San Diego),
Emily Townsend (101' vs. Regis), and
Anna Deleray (83' vs. Colorado Christian).
THE SERIES
Westminster visits Golden for the first time in the second meeting between the two schools; Mines won 1-0 last year in Salt Lake City on
Haley Cole's second-half goal from
Acacia Ortiz's corner. Mines and Mesa play for the 17th time with the Orediggers up 12-3-1 in the series; Mines is unbeaten in their last 12 meetings and has not even allowed a goal to the Mavericks since 2011.
Caitlin Kaltenbaugh and Ortiz scored in last year's win in Grand Junction.
SCOUTING WESTMINSTER/MESA
Westminster is the only unbeaten team left in RMAC play at 3-0-2 and 6-1-2 overall. They own the league's second-best offensive numbers (behind Mines) led by RMAC scoring leader Madison Roemer (7G, 2A). Defensively they are second in GAA (again behind Mines) at 0.41 with four goals allowed in nine games. Colorado Mesa is 4-4-2 overall and 2-2-1 in RMAC play, having allowed only 0.70 goals per game but scoring only 0.60. Amanda Wenzel has two goals to lead the Mavs; Janelle Richmond-Buccola (0.80, .861) and Katelyn Houston (0.47, .867) have split starts in goal.
