#6 Mines Advances Past Dallas Baptist On PKs

GOLDEN, Colo. - #6 Colorado School of Mines won a dramatic penalty kick shootout to move on in NCAA Championship play after a scoreless draw with Dallas Baptist.

The Orediggers (19-2-1) dominated the game with a 29-6 shots lead, but needed two saves and some ice-cold PK taking by Anna Deleray, Kortney DesCamp, and Peyton Sanders to advance 3-2 in the shootout.

Mines, the top seed in the South Central region, will host the winner of Sunday's game between Midwestern State and Texas A&M Commerce in the Third Round. The Orediggers will also host the West regional final between UC San Diego and the winner of Western Washington-Central Washington. Those games will take place Friday at noon and 2:30 p.m., with the national quarterfinal Sunday at noon.

Chances abounded for Mines in regulation as they outshot DBU 11-4 in the first half, 13-1 in the second, and 5-1 in overtime. DBU goalkeeper Hope Koym made 11 saves to keep her side in it, while the Mines defense held the Patriots without a legitimate scoring chance in the game.

In the shootout, Emily Garnier hit the post before Emmy Niece fired wide in the first round, but DBU went ahead after Koym made a fantastic save of Giselle Sawaged and Lindsay McManus made a shot that went off Zumbro's gloves. Nicole LaTourette's bid was saved, but Zumbro saved Errica Everson's bid in the third round. Anna Deleray put Mines on the board and Emma Durain's hit post ensured a 1-1 tie after four rounds.

Both Kortney DesCamp and Rebecca Kernen made their shots to force sudden death, and with Mines going first, Peyton Sanders cooly hit to go up 3-2. That put Geneva Martinez on the spot, and Zumbro guessed the right way for the win.
