RMAC TOURNAMENTÂ
The RMAC Tournament gets underway tomorrow evening, and the Orediggers find themselves as the #2 overall seed in this year's edition. They will host the seventh-seeded Grizzlies of Adams State in the quarterfinal round. MSU Denver comes in as the top-seeded team and will host CSU-Pueblo. UCCS is the three, and they will host Colorado Christian. While Regis will host Colorado Mesa in the 4/5 matchup. All matches are set to get underway at 7 p.m.
LAST WEEK REWIND
Mines closed out the regular season with a home match last Tuesday against Colorado Christian followed by a road contest at Chadron State on Saturday. While they lost a five-set match against CCU, the Orediggers bounced back with a three-set sweep at CSC to head into the RMAC Tournament on high note.
Ellie Monarch led the way with 3.12 k/s while hitting at a .375 clip. She is also was a force at the net with a 1.38 b/s average.
IN THE POLLS
The 1-1 week on the court saw the Orediggers drop two spots to #23 in the latest AVCA Division II Coaches' Top-25 which came earlier this afternoon. More importantly, Mines is now up to #4 in the latest South Central Region Rankings which came out last Wednesday. #13 Angelo State remained as the top team in the region with #17 MSU Denver nipping at their heels. Tarleton State is at #3 while Arkansas-Fort Smith is at #5. RMAC rivals Colorado Mesa, Regis and Colorado Christian check in at #6, #7 and #10, respectively.Â
YOU LOOK FAMILIAR
This will be the third meeting this season between Mines and Adams State, and the Orediggers won both of the previous meetings. First, Mines posted a shutout in Golden on October 8 when they held the Grizzlies to 0.90 hitting. The meeting in Alamosa just 10 days ago went four sets, but
LaRose Currie posted 15 kills and nine digs to help the Orediggers to victory. Â With the two victories, Mines holds the all-time series against ASU, 17-15.
SCOUTING MINES
The Orediggers are in the top-three in the RMAC in kills (13.98), assists (13.10) and team hitting percentage (.240). Leading that potent offense it the trio of
Alanna Winfield,
Ellie Monarch and
Marina Hansen. Winfield is eighth in the league in kills per set at 3.48, Monarch is top in the conference with a .357 hitting % and Hansen is fourth in the league in assists at 10.73 per game.
Taryn Huber gets all that offense started with her conference second-best 5.32 digs per set.
SCOUTING ADAMS STATE
Mallory Grimsrud is catalyst behind everything Adams State does on offense and defense. The junior from Montana City, Mont. paces the team with 3.60 k/s on .287 hitting, and has team lead with 1.18 blocks per set. Those numbers are sixth, 10th and fourth-best in the RMAC, respectively. The Grizzlies are also solid defensively as they allow only 11.91 kills per set and hold opponents to .172 hitting on the season.
