Natesan's Buzzerbeater Sinks Fort Hays State

FORT HAYS, Kan. - Gokul Natesan's buzzerbeating three-pointer won the game for #21 Colorado School of Mines as they survived Fort Hays State 70-67.

The Orediggers (3-0) were facing overtime after the Tigers (2-2) erased a seven-point deficit with 2:47 to play. Caleb Waitsman led Mines with 17 points and eight rebounds, with Natesan (14), Ben Sonnefeld (10), and Ben Clare (10) also in double-digit scoring.

Mines shot a solid 55.8 percent for the game but struggled in limited chances at the line, going 6-for-14 to Fort Hays State's 9-for-10. It was tight the entire game, and after Waitsman's layup put Mines ahead 67-60 with 2:47 left, FHSU caught fire with Kyler Kinnamon's layup and Rob Davis' three-pointer cutting the lead to two. An off shot by Sonnefeld and Waitsman's free throw miss gave the Tigers an opening, and Davis sank both of his free throws with 26 seconds left to tie the game.

The Orediggers had last shot, and Natesan made the most of it. The senior banked in an off-balance, step-back three at the buzzer to continue Mines' perfect start.
