Bailey Leads Mines to 71-56 Win Over Regis

GOLDEN, Colo. – The near triple-double of Emily Bailey propelled Colorado School of Mines to an impressive 71-56 over rival Regis University on Saturday, December 3 at Lockridge Arena.

Emily Bailey continues to shine as tonight she posted a stat line of 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks to help Mines (6-5, 2-0) give RU (6-1, 1-1) their first loss of the season.

Mines opened the game really strong as they jumped out to an early lead on an 11-point run which put them ahead 17-10 by the end of the first quarter.

The last basket of the first period started another Orediggers run as this time they proceeded to go on a 10-point sprint to push their lead out to 25-10 with 4:20 to go until halftime. That run was sparked due in part to RU's Kaylie Rader picking her second foul with 2:45 left in the first quarter which allowed Emily Bailey and Elizabeth Tomon to drive at the rim at will.

Trailing by 15, Regis' head coach Molly Marrin decided to switch up her defense and went to a full court press. That decision proved to come up in spades as the Rangers forced six turnovers which led to 10-0 run to close out the half, and leave Mines only with a 25-20 halftime advantage.

The second half started fairly even through first eight minutes of the third quarter, but Mines started to pull away after back-to-back Emily Bailey free throws followed by a massive three-pointer from Paige Husa pushed the lead to 12 (45-33) with under two minutes left in the quarter.

Then, with 50 seconds left in the third period, Anna Kollmorgen and Bailey decided that the game was over as the two combined for 12 straight points to put the Orediggers up 57-37 just shy of two minutes into the fourth quarter.

From there it was academic as Mines kept a 20-point lead the rest of the way before settling in with a 71-56 victory.

Notables
-    Tasked with going against the physical presence of the 6-4 Kaylie Rader, Elizabeth Tomon was spectacular as she drew Rader out of the paint en route to 17 points and five rebounds.
-    The Mines defense was also special tonight as they held the Rangers to 27% shooting from the field and 21% from deep.
-    While not producing the points that Bailey did, Anna Kollmorgen was also dominant with a stat line of six points, 11 rebounds and five assists as she played a lot of time at point guard tonight.
-    Cassidy Budge continued to flourish in her role off the bench as she scored 11 points. She was 2-for-3 from deep and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe.
-    Both teams came in averaging 46 rebounds a game, but it was Mines who thoroughly won the battle at 45-34.

Up Next
After a 4-0 home stand the past two weekends, Mines returns to the road as they head to both Black Hills State and S.D. Mines next Friday and Saturday, December 9-10.
