GOLDEN, Colo. - Three-point shooting helped Colorado School of Mines overcome a deficit to beat Westminster, 70-64.
Luke Schroepfer delivered three of Mines' 10 threes to pour in 22 points, and
Gokul Natesan (15 points) and
Zach Rusk (12 points) helped power Mines' offense.
The Orediggers (10-3, 5-2 RMAC) shot only 37.3 percent for the game but made 10 of 24 three pointers as they erased the Griffins' 10-point first-half lead.
WC went up thanks to an 11-2 run in the first, but the Orediggers outscored their guests 16-4 over the final 5:16 of the half which included four three's and two from Rusk. That put Mines ahead 33-31, and the Orediggers would never trail after that.Â
Westminster kept it close in the second half as Mines' lead never went higher than nine, and the Griffins pulled within a bucket three times in the final five minutes. After Zerrion Payton's jumper with 3:30 left made it 62-60, Schroepfer hit a dagger three with 2:05 remaining, and
Ben Sonnefeld's off-balance bankshot made it a six-point lead. Schroepfer made three of his four foul shots in the final minute to seal it.
