Box Score How It Happened
The Colorado School of Mines (4-5) were overpowered by region power Angelo State (7-3) by the final of 14-4 in eight innings on Friday, February 26 at Jim Darden Field.
After only a hit in the first inning, Angelo State got pair of runs in the second inning to get its high powered offense going. The first run came on a one out bunt by Elias Aguirre that just stayed fair and allowed Jarryd Klemm to scamper home. One batter later, David Goggin singled through the left side to plate the second run.
Angelo State added a lone run in the third inning before really stretching its lead out in the fourth on a four-run outburst that put them ahead 7-0. That inning was aided by three hits and a pair of CSM errors.
The Rams added to that lead again in the sixth inning when catcher David Goggin hit a leadoff homerun to right centerfield. After a walk then a pitching change for Mines, second baseman Sam Kohler doubled down the leftfield line to move right fielder Christian Abilla over to third base. A few pitches later Abilla came home on a wild pitch for a 9-0 ASU lead.
ASU came back with another four-spot in the top of the seventh inning to take a 13-0 before Mines attempted to rally in the bottom half of the inning.
Mines scored four runs on a RBI double from Griffin Jones, a wild pitch from ASU scored Jace Selsor, an RBI single from John Howard and a bases loaded walk from Nate Olinger.
Angelo State came back with a run in the top of the eighth to end the game in eight innings.
