GOLDEN, Colo. – After a tough series opener yesterday afternoon, the Colorado School of Mines pulled out a huge doubleheader sweep of Angelo State this afternoon at Jim Darden Field.

The Orediggers (6-5) rallied in game one against the Rams (7-5) top pitchers to win 10-7, and followed that with a gem from Christian Rooney to take game two, 5-2.

Game One: Mines 10, ASU 7
After a five run top of the first for Angelo State, Mines responded right back in the bottom half of the inning. With an out and runners on first and second, Connor Lambert smoked a double into left centerfield to plate both Josh Martinez and Nate Olinger.

Down 5-2 in the third inning, the Orediggers erased and then took the lead from the Rams. With one out and runners on first and second, Lambert hit his second straight double, this time to right centerfield, to plate Logan Smith. Then, one at bat later, Cody Marvel snuck a triple between the left and centerfielder to plate a pair. Mines capped the inning with a Jace Selsor RBI single to put them ahead 6-5.

Before that big inning and right after it, Mines erased would be scoring opportunities with back-to-back double plays. The one in the fourth inning was particularly notable because Lambert fielded a fly out then gunned the guy running for home out at the plate.

The runs taken away by Mines ended up even bigger when they added another four runs in the fifth inning. The four runs came on an RBI double from Marvel, a wild pitch to score Marvel, a Griffin Jones double down the left field line and finally Jones came home on a balk.

While Angelo State scratched two across in the top of the sixth it wouldn't be enough as reliever Max Moxley pitched the final two innings of the game for the save.

Game Two: Mines 5, ASU 2
The second game saw Mines get off to a great start, due in part to the struggles of ASU starting pitcher Joey Wise.

Trailing 1-0, the Orediggers started off the inning by working a pair of walks followed by a fielder's choice which moved both runners into scoring position. A second fielder's choice by Connor Lambert plated Logan Smith.

Two batters later with the bases loaded, Griffin Jones gets the second run home when he was hit by a pitch from Wise. That hit-by-pitch was the last batter for the Rams' Wise as he was pulled promptly after two-thirds of an inning.

Mines wasn't done though as they would add three more runs of the next two innings.

First, in the second frame, Nate Olinger line a two-out single to left field to score Smith from third base. Then, in the third inning, Drew Burman hit the first homerun of his career as he launch a 1-2 pitch over the leftfield wall to put CSM up 5-1.

The Rams were able to get one run in the top of the sixth, but that would be it as Christian Rooney and reliever Samuel Reed were dynamite on the mound.

Notables
- The first game of the day saw Mines pound out 10 hits with two each coming from Olinger, Lambert, Marvel and Selsor. Lambert and Marvel each drove in three runs as well.
Max Moxley came in and pitched the final two innings of game one and allowed only two hits while striking out one to get his first save of his career.
- Game two saw the Orediggers scratch out five runs on only six hits.
- Big reason that's all they needed was Drew Burman's first career homerun.
Christian Rooney got his first win of the year in game two as he went 5.2 innings while allowing only two runs (one earned) on four hits.
Samuel Reed closed the game out by pitching the last 1.1 innings and didn't allow a hit.
