Colorado School of Mines dropped the opening doubleheader of its weekend series at MSU Denver by scores of 11-3 (5 inn.) and 7-4.

The Roadrunners (8-8, 5-1 RMAC) brought their bats with them, using a nine-run second inning in the first game and a key home run in the nightcap to earn the sweep.

Paige Noehring, Sonoma Toot, and Amanda Etcheverry drove in runs in the first game, while Maddie Rogers went 2-for-3 with two RBI in game two, and Boston Ludlow and Kara Walling also drove in runs.

In game 1, Metro took an early 1-0 lead on an unearned run in the first, but things unraveled for Mines in the second as the Roadrunners plated nine on seven hits and an error. MSUD tacked on another run in the fourth but Mines (3-9, 3-3 RMAC) showed fight in the fifth. After Loren Dempsey reached on a lead-off error and Brielle Asato pinch-ran, Amanda Etcheverry knocked in Asato on a fielder's choice and Walling brought in Pua Fujinaga on the next at-bat. Noehring singled in Etcheverry, but Mines' rally was ended there as the Roadrunners got out of the inning for the five-inning win.

Hayley Fields earned the win for MSU Denver, striking out four and allowing two hits. Hallie Smith took the loss, with Maddie Rogers throwing three innings of relief.

Game two started the same way as Metro played four in the first inning on an error, Sarena Espinoza's two-run double, and Cassidy Smith's RBI single. The Orediggers answered in the second with consecutive RBI doubles by Rogers and Ludlow, and Walling tacked on a third run with her single. Rogers brought in Sonoma Toot in the top of the third to tie the game.

MSU Denver retook the lead in the bottom of the third on Annika Anderson's ground-out, and Carissa Terry's two-run, two-out home run in the fourth shut the door.

Cassiy Smith was the winner, allowing four earned on nine hits. Hallie Smith went the distance and was hooked with the loss, allowing six earned and striking out three on eight hits.

The two teams will do it again Sunday with a noon doubleheader in Denver.
