Brielle Asato's go-ahead infield single in the seventh inning helped Mines secure a comeback win in game two and split their RMAC doubleheader at Regis on Sunday.
The Orediggers (7-14, 7-9 RMAC) trailed 5-2 heading into the seventh inning of the series' final game, but managed to plate four including Amanda Etcheverry's game-tying, bases-loaded hit by pitch and Asato's go-ahead single. That came after Regis took the opener 6-2 after Mines held an early lead.
GAME 1 - Regis 6, Mines 2
Regis struck for four runs in the first and two in the sixth to negate an early Mines advantage and win, 6-2.
Boston Ludlow's first-inning double scored Dani Valerio and Sonoma Toot, but Nicole Aviles would hold the Orediggers scoreless the rest of the way as the Rangers bats did the rest. Regis manufactured four runs in the bottom of the first on RBIs from Aviles, Carlie Sexton, Delaney McGinn, and Emily John, then added the insurance in the sixth with runs on a pair of errors.
Hallie Smith allowed four earned on 11 hits while striking out three for Mines; Aviles allowed two earned on three strikeouts. Asato went 2-for-3 at the plate while Kara Jones, Ludlow, and Pua Fujinaga picked up hits.
GAME 2 - Mines 6, Regis 5
Mines' furious comeback in the top of the seventh earned them a 6-5 win in the final game of the series.
Sonoma Toot led off the game with a solo home run, but Regis scored three in the bottom half keyed by Nicole Hull's two-run triple to lead 3-1. The Rangers tacked on two more in the fifth on a pair of errors, but Mines began the rally in the next frame when Asato doubled in Loren Dempsey to cut the lead to 5-2.
In the top of the seventh, Valerio knocked a one-out double and scored on Jones' single, and Katie Leiker drove in Ludlow with two outs later in the inning. Fujinaga and Dempsey walked to load the bases, and Etcheverry drew a full-count hit-by-pitch to allow Leiker to tie the game. That brought up Asato, who was 3-for-3 to that point in the game, and she legged out an infield single to short, plating Fujinaga for the go-ahead run.
Maddie Rogers had work to do in the bottom of the seventh, getting out of a two-on jam as Leiker caught the lead runner out at third for the second out and Alyssa Finger flied out to Toot to end the game.
Rogers picked up the win allowing only two earned with five strikeouts. Hull took the loss, allowing six earned, while Aviles relieved her in the seventh and ultimately allowed the winning run across.
Asato went 4-for-4 with two RBI to lead Mines. Toot, Jones, Leiker, and Etcheverry each had an RBI, while Valerio was 3-for-4 and Ludlow collected a pair of hits.
