Colorado School of Mines bounced back from a tough loss to Adams State in the morning to shut out Black Hills State in the day's final game and split the first two games of their RMAC pod in Golden.

Adams State scored a late run to win the first game 8-7, but Hallie Smith threw a three-hit gem against BHSU to get Mines on track in the afternoon in a 3-0 win. Adams State beat Black Hills State in the day's other game, 7-5.

GAME 1 - Adams State 8, Mines 7
ASU's seventh-inning run capped a wild first game that saw the two teams combine for 15 runs and 20 hits after Mines had rallied back from a 7-2 deficit to tie the game in the fifth. The Grizzlies led off the game with consecutive triples to get on the board, but Mines plated two in their first at-bat thanks to Loren Dempsey's bases-loaded walk and Maddie Rogers' RBI ground-out.

The Grizzlies broke it open in the third with six runs on four hits, keyed by Cheyenne Hamilton's bases-clearing double, but Mines chipped away with two in the bottom half, taking advantage of an inning-extending error to scored Dempsey before Sonoma Toot drove in Boston Ludlow. Hallie Smith relieved Rogers in the circle and settled things for Mines defensively, while the Orediggers got another run back on Kara Jones' RBI double in the fourth and RBI singles from Toot and Dani Valerio in the fifth to tie it 7-7.

The winning run came in the seventh for ASU as Marissa Harmon smacked a one-out triple and Shaena Connely singled her in, and Mines went down in order in their last at-bat.

Smith struck out four in 4.1 innings of relief to take the loss despite allowing only one earned; Rogers allowed seven with a strikeout in 2.2 innings. Lauren Murphy started for ASU and went four innings allowing five earned, but Kaitlin Hoffman picked up the win with three innings of scoreless two-hit ball.

GAME 2 - Mines 3, Black Hills State 0
Hallie Smith outdueled Stef Witman in the day's conclusion, scattering three hits and striking out five in Mines' 3-0 win.

The Orediggers rode Valerio's third-inning ground-out that scored Ludlow into the sixth inning before padding their lead. Mines pounced on defensive miscues in the sixth, as Leiker led off with a single and later scored on a passed ball; pinch-runner Brielle Asato then scored on Ludlow's single after an error at first extended the inning.

Meanwhile, Smith (5-4) worked out of jams in the first and second, forcing BHSU to strand nine in the game. She scatted three hits on 109 pitches. Witman (1-5) allowed only one earned on six hits.
