How It Happened
#18 Colorado School of Mines (6-2) pulled off an impressive 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-15) shutout of Saint Leo (5-3) to close out the Colorado Premier Challenge on Saturday, September 10 at MSU Denver.
Mines was determined to finish the challenge on a strong note as they came out and won the opening frame, 25-22. A monstrous seven kills by
Ellie Monarch and 17 assists from
Marina Hansen enabled the Orediggers to pull out the set. The key run of was in the middle of the set as Mines broke a 12-12 deadlock and turned it into an 18-14 advantage they never relinquished.Â
The second set wasn't particularly close as Mines got out to a quick 6-0 lead and simply never looked back as they took the frame, 25-18. That opening jaunt featured incredible serving from
LaRose Currie who posted two aces and there kills and blocks from both
Alanna Winfield and
Madeline Behr.
Initially tied at two, Mines broke the early deadlock and took an 8-6 lead and stretched it to an 18-10 advantage in the blink of an eye to easily close out the third and final frame, 25-15.

Marina Hansen was strong with her first career double-double of 34 assists and 11 digs. She also produced three blocks and two kills.

Ellie Monarch led the game with 13 kills on a gaudy .600 attacking percentage. She also had four blocks.
-Â Â Â Speaking of blocks, Mines had 12 blocks for the contest with
Madeline Behr combining in on seven of them. Those seven blocks tied a career high for Behr.

Taryn Huber paced the team with 14 digs.
