How It Happened
The first career hat trick for freshman
Trevor Amann propelled Colorado School of Mines (4-2-1, 3-0) to a commanding 4-1 victory over UCCS (2-4-1, 1-2) on Friday, September 23 at Stermole Soccer Stadium.
Mines will remain perfect in league play due in large part to the brilliance of the freshman from Westminster, Colo. who got them out to an early 2-0 lead.
Amann's first goal came in the 12' when
Jackson Shelledy threw in one of his patented long tosses from the sideline.
John Haist met the throw, trapped it, and then flicked it on to Amann who got the Orediggers on the scoreboard. Then, nine minutes later, Amann rocketed in his second goal of the night when he sent in an absolute rocket from 19 yards out on the right side of the box.
UCCS momentarily stole the momentum when Conor Langenbahn got the Mountain Lions on the scoreboard in the 53', but that wouldn't last long as Amann continued his epic night. In the 64', Amann headed home a
Ben Overholt cross which he met at the back post.
Finally, in the 70',
David Boldt put the game away for good when he collected the rebound off a
John Haist shot and rocketed it in the back of the net.
