#14 St. Edward's Outlasts #6 Mines, 2-0

A pair of second-half goals lifted #14 St. Edward's to a 2-0 victory against #6 Colorado School of Mines on Sunday.

The Hilltoppers' defense, one of the best in the nation a year ago, held Mines to only four shots as the SEU offense came alive after the break.

Mines freshman Trevor Amann was by far the most active Oredigger, nearly scoring on a header in the final minute of the first half and just missing over the bar on a 35-yard effort late in the second. He had three of Mines' four shots with Ashi Geberkidane supplying the other.

Grant Mobley's header off Pablo Covarrubias' corner put SEU ahead at 53', and Covarrubias served up a late second goal for Parker Fyfe, crossing from the header to Fyfe's head.

NOTABLES
- Leo Chely made three saves for Mines. Kevin Leib had one save for the shutout.
- As was to be expected, it was a physical contest with 18 total fouls (11-7 SEU) and seven yellow cards (4-3 SEU).
- The game air on ESPN3, the first time Mines men's soccer has been featured in a national broadcast.
- St. Edward's led 8-4 on shots and 5-1 in shots on goal. They held a 3-1 edge on corners.
