GOLDEN, Colo. - For the second straight night, Colorado School of Mines put together a lights-out shooting half as they exploded for 63 second-half points in a 103-64 win over Western State.
After missing only five shots in the first half Friday against Colorado Mesa, the Orediggers (14-3, 9-2 RMAC) won their seventh consecutive game with a big second half against Western State, shooting 71 percent and 8-for-13 for three to bust open a 40-33 halftime lead.
Luke Schroepfer and
Gokul Natesan each scored 21, with
Caleb Waitsman adding 13,
Adam Laine 12, and
Kaan Korkmaz 11.Â
It was a high-paced first half that saw both teams take multiple leads, and Western State was up as much as five before a 10-0 Mines run sparked by a Natesan three put them up for good.
The key to the second half was a 16-2 Mines run that turned a six-point lead into an 18-point cushion. Laine scored six of Mines' 18 in that span, and Mines run of 13-2 deeper in the half sealed it up. The Orediggers won going away, taking their largest lead at 40 with
Ruben Jackson's off-balance layup in the final minute.
