THE MATCH-UP
After another week of play, Mines (11-11, 7-6) remains in a tie for sixth place overall in the RMAC. This week will be key for the Orediggers as they begin at nearby Colorado Christian (8-10, 6-7) on Tuesday. The Cougars currently sit a half game out of the RMAC Tournament race. Mines will then host-last place Adams State (1-16, 0-14) this upcoming Saturday.
LAST WEEK REWIND
Mines went 1-1 on the week in a home contest against New Mexico Highlands followed by a road game at #10 CSU-Pueblo. First, the Orediggers used their superior rebounding prowess (56-36) to punish the Cowgirls in a 63-44 victory. Mines then went on the road and gave the unbeaten Thunderwolves all they could handle before falling 83-74 in Pueblo. Through both contests, one Oredigger shined brightest…
BAILEY CONTINUES TO PRODUCE
The sensational sophomore season for
Emily Bailey kept rolling right along as she averaged 22 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and two assists while shooting a sparkling 53.1% from the field this past weekend. After posting a stat line of 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists and a pair of steals in the victory over Highlands, Bailey then produced her second career double-double of 27 points (new career-high) and 10 rebounds to go along with three steals in two assists against CSU-P.Â
Bailey is now ninth in the conference in scoring (13.5), third in total blocks (27), 22nd in assists (2.2), 20th in steals (1.3) and sixth in field goal percentage (.401).
LAST SEASON
The Orediggers swept the season series against both CCU and ASU last season. Against the Cougars, Mines pulled out a dramatic, 64-63, overtime victory in Lakewood on a
Mikaela Moore putback in the final 40 seconds. Behind 20-point efforts from
Emily Bailey and
Anna Kollmorgen, the Orediggers capped off their outright RMAC Championship as they defeated Colorado Christian, 81-70, in the regular season finale.
Mines beat Adams State comfortably in both meetings last season with each encounter coming nearly a month apart. Whether in Alamosa (78-62) or in Golden (75-66), Mines got a balanced offensive effort in both games.
WHO TO WATCH
Colorado Christian boasts one of the premier players in all of the RMAC in junior Alex Nelson. The La Vista, Neb. native averages 14.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game which are eighth and 11th-best in the league, respectively.Â
Adams State's Cydney McHenry is the team's top offensive option at 9.1 points and 2.8 assists per outing. She is the only Grizzlies player averaging more than 30 minutes of playing time (33.1).
