LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Led by
Mikaela Moore's first career double-double, Colorado School of Mines earned a pivotal 79-62 victory at Colorado Christian on Tuesday, January 24.
Moore scored 17 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out three assists as she keyed Mines (12-11, 8-6) to an important RMAC road victory. The win also put some distance between Mines and CCU (8-11, 6-8) whom came into the game only a half game out of the RMAC Tournament race.
Mikaela Moore got Mines off to a great as she scored the game's first four points en route to a six-point and four-rebound opening period for her. Other than a brief tie at 14-14 midway through the quarter, the Orediggers never trailed as they staked a 22-19 advantage by the end of the opening period.
That advantage carried over into the second quarter as the game slowed down considerably with both team's defense's ratcheting up the intensity. The slowdown suited Mines though as both Moore and
Laura Tyree scored four points in the period to take a 35-27 lead into the halftime locker room.
Mines opened the second half by scoring the first seven points of the third quarter to push the lead into double digits (42-27). That initial burst, which was sparked again by
Mikaela Moore, was maintained throughout the period as the Orediggers outscored the Cougars 22-17.
Leading 57-44 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Mines essentially put the game away for good as they scored 22 points for the second straight period.
