Moore & Bailey Lead Mines to Dominating Victory at Westminster

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Behind near double-doubles from Mikaela Moore and Emily Bailey, Colorado School of Mines earned a dominating 77-58 victory at Westminster on Saturday, January 7 at the Behnken Field House.

Mines (9-9, 5-4) avenged last weekend's home loss to the Griffins (6-7, 4-5) as they dominated essentially every single statistical category. The Orediggers also held WC's leading scorer Sydnee Taylor (12.8ppg) to only one point and 0-for-8 from the field.

The Orediggers come out firing on all cylinders in the opening quarter as they shot 56% from the field. Emily Bailey chipped in nine points to help Mines to a 20-15 lead by the end of the quarter.

The quarter break didn't slow the Orediggers down at all as they continued to pour it on the home standing Griffins. In fact, Mines took a narrow 16-15 lead with 2:20 left in the first quarter and stretched it into a commanding 33-17 advantage with 4:12 left in the half. That pivotal 17-2 run saw six different Mines players score including four points each from Elizabeth Tomon and Mikaela Moore.

Mines maintained that 15-point spread the rest of the half as they took a 39-24 lead into the locker room.

The Griffins appeared though they were going to make it interesting when they narrowed the deficit to only 12 (51-39) with 2:16 left in the third quarter, but Mines immediately responded with a commanding 14-0 run to put the game away for good.

The Orediggers flirted with a 30-point lead on two occasions in the fourth quarter, but ultimately settled in for comfortable 77-58 victory.
