Mines Works Road Win At Chadron, 27-15

CHADRON, Neb. - A tough defense and balanced offense led Colorado School of Mines to a road win at Chadron State, 27-15, on Saturday.

The Orediggers (5-4, 5-3 RMAC) were led by Dean Wenger's two-interception, 11-tackle effort while the offense was paced by Cameron Mayberry's 150-yard, two-touchdown game. Mayberry became the sixth player in program history to hit a 1,000-yard season during the game.

Making his first career start under center, Cody Limmer was an efficient 13-of-19 for 216 yards and two touchdowns, one each to Brody Oliver and Riley Hoff

Chadron ran out to an early 9-0 lead on Will Morgan's game-opening field goal and Derek Jackson's two-yard touchdown run later in the first. Mayberry got Mines on the board with a 23-yard run late in the quarter, and Oliver caught a 29-yard pass from Limmer to put the Orediggers ahead at the half, 13-9.

Hoff caught a 39-yard pass from Limmer to open the second half and extend the lead to 20-9, but but Chadron answered with Derek Jackson's one-yard run later in the quarter. A 28-yard Hoff punt return set up Mines deep in Chadron territory early in the fourth quarter, and it paid off as Mayberry went 27 yards to the house on the first play of the drive to cement the lead at 27-15. Wenger's second interception of the game came late in the quarter to halt the Eagles deep in Mines territory, and the defense later worked a turnover on downs in the closing seconds to end any comeback hope.

Wenger added a sack to his day, while James Kohlschmidt had 10 tackles and Drew Stephon nine.

Mines heads to Adams State Nov. 4 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
