SALT LAKE CITY - #8 Colorado School of Mines ran its unbeaten streak to nine games as they shut out Westminster, 3-0, on Friday.
The Orediggers (8-1-1, 5-0-1 RMAC) received goals from
Chaney Brugman,
Hannah Stoner, and
Giselle Sawaged as they outshot the Griffins (4-7-0, 1-5-0 RMAC) by a 20-7 margin.
After a slow start that saw WC take four of their seven shots, Mines surged towards the end of the first half and the result was Brugman's first career goal, shooting from the top of the box off
Laya Rybicki's assist at 31:55. It would stay 1-0 until the 59th minute when
Hannah Stoner headed home
Haley Cole's cross, and Sawaged put back a rebound in the 84th minute to cap the win.
Shannon Mooney made one save to earn her seventh shutout of the season, lowering her GAA to 0.30. Hillary Weixler (four saves) and Breanna Empey (six saves) split halves in goal for the Griffins.
Mines stays on the road to visit Colorado Mesa on Sunday.
