LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Double-doubles by
Marina Hansen and
Janice Jin combined with
Madeline Behr's 18 kills paced #17 Colorado School of Mines in a 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-21) win at Colorado Christian on Tuesday.
Now 16-1 in RMAC play with one match remaining, the Orediggers (22-4 overall) are tied with Regis for first place in the RMAC. Should Mines win its final regular-season match against Chadron State on Saturday, it would ensure at least a share of the RMAC title should Regis beat Colorado Mesa; if Regis falls to CMU, Mines would claim the title outright with a victory.
Mines bounced back from a poor-hitting first set to establish big leads in each of the remaining three sets.
Marina Hansen put up 50 assists with 14 digs while
Janice Jin had 10 kills and matched her career high with 18 digs;
LaRose Currie added 22 digs to lead a defense that was +12 on digs in holding CCU to .179 hitting.
Offensively, Behr hit for 18 kills at a .417 clip and
Abby Tiesman had 16 kills hitting .441.
Lindsey Jin added 11 kills and seven digs. Sophia Proano paced CCU (16-10, 13-4 RMAC) with 13 kills.
After hitting only .111 in the first set, Mines came out strongly in the second to lead 5-0, and never trailed after that, putting the set away with a 6-1 run to end it. The third was point-for-point until a kill by Behr, block by Behr and
Janice Jin, and kill by Jin gave Mines space at 18-15, and they wrapped it up on a 4-2 run to win 25-20. The fourth started with a big Oredigger lead once again before a 4-0 run by CCU mid-set cut the advantage to 17-16; Mines capitalized on CCU errors in a 4-1 run to take control of the set on the way to a 25-21 win.
