UCCS Too Much For Mines In 74-63 Setback

GOLDEN, Colo. - Dominating post play from UCCS dashed hopes of Colorado School of Mines' comeback attempt as the Mountain Lions held on for a 74-63 win.

The Orediggers (16-13, 12-8 RMAC) were hosting the penultimate game of the regular season as the Mountain Lions (18-8, 15-5 RMAC) were working to improve their RMAC Tournament seed.

Tori Fisher had 29 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocks while Brittany Hernandez scored 19 with three blocks to lead UCCS. Mines was buoyed by Emily Bailey's 22-point, seven-rebound night and Anna Kollmorgen's 13-point, 11-board double-double.

Mines never led in the game and trailed by as much as 13 in the first half, but ended the half with a Cassidy Budge buzzer-beater to take the momentum into the second. UCCS went ahead 10 with 9:03 remaining thanks to Chelsea Pearson's free throws, but Mines answered with an 11-4 run keyed by back-to-back Budge three-pointers to cut the lead to 62-59 with 6:27 to go.

That would be as close as Mines got, however, as the Orediggers were held without a field goal over the final 6:27 and UCCS ended the game on a 12-4 run. Fisher scored 10 points in that span, and Mines had only free throws by Bailey and Paige Husa.

NOTABLES
- Budge ended up with 12 points off the bench. Her buzzerbeater at the end of the second quarter was upheld on video review as her putback attempt left her hand with only 0.1 seconds left on the clock.
- Laura Tyree grabbed four steals to go with nine points.
- UCCS' passing was outstanding as they assisted on 22 of 29 field goals.
- The Mountain Lions held a 48-42 edge on the glass. UCCS shot 45.3 percent to Mines' 27.4 percent.
- Hernandez did all of her scoring in the first half as the Mines defense shut her down in the second.
