Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. - Colton Wardle drove in four runs as Colorado School of Mines earned a series split with CSU-Pueblo in a 9-5 win.
Wardle drove in four runs with a home run, and
Mikey Gangwish also homered as he and
Daniel Ciraula had two-RBI days.Â
It was a back-and-forth game through the early innings as Pueblo went ahead 1-0 in the first before
Mikey Gangwish homered in the second to tie it. Pueblo responded with two more runs in the bottom half to lead 3-1, but Wardle collected his first RBI on a sac fly in the third to cut the lead to 3-2.
In the fourth, Pueblo tacked on a run with a groundout to lead 4-2, but that lead wouldn't last long. With two on in the fifth, Wardle went yard, putting Mines ahead for the first time in the game, and
Daniel Ciraula added a groundout to score Gangwish in the sixth. Gangwish flew out to score
Jace Selsor in the seventh to lead 7-4, and after a Pueblo run in the bottom half, Mines got two unusual runs as both Ciraula and
Connor Lambert scored on balks in the eighth and ninth innings.
Jake Ekstrom had the start and went 3.0 innings, and
Walter Pennington earned the win with five terrific innings out of the bullpen. The freshman struck out three and scattered four hits as he allowed two runs.
Clark Martin worked the ninth in a non-save situation, striking out two.
The Orediggers will return home Tuesday to host Sioux Falls in non-conference play with a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
