STRIKEOUT CANCER DAY
Saturday's games will be StrikeOut Cancer Day. The Orediggers have set a fundraising goal of $1,500 towards the National Foundation for Cancer Research, and you can help them reach it with a donation via Crowdrise. Mines led NCAA Division II in fundraising for StrikeOut Cancer Day in 2016.
IN THE RMAC STANDINGS
This weekend's series will likely decide third place in the RMAC standings as Mines (19-9 RMAC) hosts Chadron State (18-9 RMAC), with the Eagles a half-game behind Mines for third. The top eight teams in the standings make the RMAC Tournament, and with three weekends left, the Orediggers are in solid shape for making the field.
SMITH NAMED RMAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
For the third time this season, Colorado School of Mines'
Hallie Smith is the RMAC Pitcher of the Week. Smith was instrumental in the three wins by the Orediggers over CSU-Pueblo last weekend. Smith went 2-0 with a save, allowing only one run over 14 innings in three appearances to record a 0.50 ERA. On Saturday, Smith gave up one run in the second inning of a 13-1 blowout win, and she was even better on Sunday. In game one, she entered for two innings of no-hit ball to pick up her sixth save of the year, then she twirled a two-hit complete-game shutout in game two to run her scoreless streak to 12.2 innings.
FUJINAGA NEARS 100 HITS
Junior
Pua Fujinaga has a chance to be the newest member of Mines' 100 hits club this weekend. The junior third baseman enters the Chadron State series with 96 career hits, and is on pace for a career season hitting .299 and slugging .392, both the best in her three years.
NOEHRING APPROACHES STOLEN BASE RECORD
Senior centerfielder
Paige Noehring is well-represented on Mines' career record books. She is now one steal away from tying the Mines stolen bases mark; the record of 45 is held by Kaleigh Starr (2007-10). With 221 career hits, Noehring is alone in fifth on the Mines career list, and she is also cracking into a few other career categories, and is now sixth in career runs (124), seventh in at-bats (600), and tied for seventh in doubles (36).
