Grotz Ties Assists Record At St. Mary's

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Nikolaus Grotz tied Mines' career assists record, but Colorado School of Mines was unable to overcome a 2-0 first-half lead by St. Mary's as it dropped the season opener 2-1 on Sept. 1.

The Rattlers went ahead on goals by Mostaga Kamal and Pato Botello Faz before halftime as St. Mary's outshot Mines 14-10 for the game. John Haist pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute, heading in the finish from Grotz's service.

Haist was Mines' most active player with five shots, while Grotz took two. Collin Hall made five saves; Mauricio Albo also had five stops for St. Mary's.

Grotz's helper took the senior to 33 for his career, tying him with Tesho Akindele for the career lead by an Oredigger. He is also tied for fourth all-time in RMAC history in the category.

Mines visits #9 St. Edward's on Sunday for a 1 p.m. Central kickoff.
