#9 Mines Cruises to 11th Straight Victory

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The #9-ranked Colorado School of Mines Men's Soccer team routed Colorado Christian 5-0 Friday, using five goals to claim its 11th straight win and sixth consecutive shutout.

John Haist led the way with a pair of goals, giving the senior 54 in his career at Mines. Ben Overholt also scored for the Orediggers and recorded an assist. Ford Edwards and Greyson Adams accounted for the other two goals while Julian Kehe, Connor van Loveren and Baptiste Debuire racked up the assists. Defensively, Drew Johnson made three assists in his eighth shutout of the year.

As a team, Mines (12-1-0, 9-0-0 RMAC) dominated Colorado Christian (1-11-0, 1-8-0 RMAC) offensively with 29 shots to the Cougars' six attempts. The Orediggers put 13 shots on goal in the effort while CCU managed just three attempts on frame.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With the sun out for the first time in days, both teams came out prepared for a fight. Colorado Christian kept pace early with nearly equal possession through the first 30 minutes of action. Haist changed it all when he was taken down in the box at 33:20. The senior stepped to the penalty spot and broke up the shutout, placing his shot in the upper-left corner.

However, Haist wasn't done yet. Just 72 seconds later he struck again. Debuire headed the ball to Kehe who headed it to Haist. The Englishman used one touch to make it 2-0, Mines.

Halftime provided little relief for the Cougars as the Orediggers took less than 60 seconds into the period to make it 3-0. Overholt carried the ball to the baseline before executing a centering pass to the foot of Edwards who one-timed it past the Cougar goalkeeper in the 46th minute.

Edwards' goal led to a lull in the action before Mines struck with two more goals in a span of 36 seconds. At 63:11, Adams finished a header from van Loveren off a throw-in. Then, at 63:37, Overholt charged through the box with the ball and finished from the left into the far side-netting.

Colorado Christian resumed its attack from earlier in the game for the final 25 minutes. However, Mines' defensive line allowed minimal challenge to Johnson in net as the Orediggers cruised to victory.
