GOLDEN, Colo. – The #21-ranked Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team suffered its first loss in over 40 days Friday as the Orediggers fell to Colorado Christian in four sets inside Lockridge Arena.
The loss came despite multiple stellar performances for Mines.
Amanda Donais registered a 13-kill, 12-dig double-double while
Abby Tiesman and
Lindsey Jin recorded double-digit kills as well with 16 and 18, respectively. On defense,
Elle Duis and
Hannah Martin joined Donais in the double-digit dig club, racking up 10 digs each.
Drew Stokes pumped out 52 assists at a pace of 13 assists per set.
Mines (17-3, 11-1 RMAC) saw its 11-match win streak come to a close despite six total blocks and eight service aces. Colorado Christian (10-11, 8-4 RMAC) claimed its third consecutive win, hitting .261 with 18 total blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lindsey Jin helped the Orediggers overcome a slow start in the opening set as she knocked down five kills on eight attempts in game one. Eight combined kills from Donais and Tiesman helped Mines take a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-22 win, despite five total blocks from the Cougars.
Mines took an early lead in the second set as well. However, CCU's defense continued to pick up steam as the Cougars stifled the Orediggers with six more blocks in the second game on the way to a 25-22 win. That defensive intensity continued through the final two sets as Colorado Christian combined for seven total blocks after the intermission, winning sets three and four 25-19 and 28-26 to clinch the upset.
