Mines Rallies to Four-Set Victory at MSU Denver

DENVER – The Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team won its 13th RMAC match Friday night as it took down MSU Denver in four sets inside the Auraria Event Center.

Drew Stokes led the way with her fourth double-double of the season, dishing out 43 assists with 14 digs. She also added three kills on four attempts for good measure. Lindsey Jin led the attack with 13 kills. Taylor Hicken, Abby Tiesman and Amanda Donais joined Jin in the double-digit kill club. Elle Duis anchored the defense with 17 digs and seven assists of her own.

As a team, Mines (19-3, 13-1 RMAC) racked up five total blocks and out-hit MSU Denver (14-7, 10-3 RMAC) by a margin of .266-.203. The Orediggers' win over the Roadrunners snapped MSUD's six-match winning streak as Mines remains alone atop the RMAC standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines dropped the opening set, 25-23, despite out-hitting the Roadrunners .275-.256. However, the Orediggers roared back in the second set, hitting .440 as a team on the way to a 25-16 win, evening the match at 1-1.

The visitors came back down to earth in the third set, but three Roadrunner miscues over the last four points gave Mines the win. Four kills each from Donais and Hicken would send the Orediggers into the intermission with a 2-1 lead in the match.

Mines defied odds and contradicted the numbers in the final set, hitting just .139 in its 25-20 win. The difference in the win was a combined 18 digs for the Orediggers while Hicken and Donais added six more kills to the stat line as Mines clinched the come-from-behind win.
