Hicken, Tiesman Fuel #22 Mines’ Sweep Over N.M. Highlands

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Taylor Hicken and Abby Tiesman combined for 22 kills Friday night as the #22-ranked Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team swept past New Mexico Highlands inside the Wilson Complex.
 
Hicken racked up 11 kills in the match while swinging .786. Tiesman had 11 kills as well, attacking .450. Drew Stokes captained the offense with 40 assists in three sets. Amanda Donais anchored the defense with four total blocks and nine digs.
 
As a team, Mines (16-2, 10-0 RMAC) out-hit the Cowgirls .446-.115. The victory marks the Orediggers' 10th straight win while New Mexico Highlands (6-12, 4-6 RMAC) drops its fourth match in its last five tries.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines dominated the match from start to finish with the lead changing hands just twice over three sets of action. The tone was set in the opening game as the Orediggers hit .400 and rode four kills from Lindsey Jin to victory.
 
In set two, Tiesman slammed down a team-high five kills as Mines upped its hitting percentage to .414 for the set. Donais added two blocks for good measure as the Orediggers headed into intermission.
 
Mines got even stronger in the final set, hitting .517 as six different individuals recorded multiple kills. The Orediggers got stronger on defense as well with three total blocks in the final set to clinch the victory.

- Mines is 7-0 against New Mexico Highlands since 2012.
- The Orediggers have not lost a match since Sept. 1 in Indianapolis.
- Friday marked Mines' ninth sweep of the season.
- The Orediggers are the only team in the RMAC with an unblemished record in conference play.
