#15 Mines Runs Over Chadron To Claim RMAC Co-Championship

GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines claimed a share of the 2018 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship, beating Chadron State 49-20 to end the regular season 10-1.

The Orediggers are virtually assured of a berth in the NCAA Championship when the field is announced Sunday at 3 p.m. on ncaa.com. They share the RMAC title with CSU-Pueblo, also 10-1 overall and 9-1 in-conference.

Mines produced some monster offensive numbers with 763 yards of total offense, including 391 on the ground. Cameron Mayberry ran for 207 yards and three touchdowns with Brandon Farmer racking up 123 with two scores; Isaac Harker threw for 372 yards and a touchdown as Brody Oliver caught six passes for 145 yards and a score. The defense did its part as well with two interceptions - including a Mack Minnehan pick-six - and a fumble recovery.

Chadron State's Dalton Holst threw for 412 yards but the Eagles were held to to only 52 yards rushing. Chad Mikelson led all receivers with 147 yards and a touchdown.

The Orediggers got off to a fast start as Harker completed his first five passes to set up a five-yard Mayberry touchdown run on the opening series. Mines got back into the red zone on the next drive but a penalty called back a Harker touchdown run, and the Orediggers' 27-yard field goal try went wide. That led to an opportunity for the Eagles, who marched the length of the field to score on Kevin Coy's one-yard push at the end of the quarter.

Mines went back on top to start the second as Harker found Oliver on 42-yard play fake to lead 14-7, and Minnehan jumped a pass and went 56 yards to the house on CSC's next drive to extend the advantage to 21-7. Mayberry's second touchdown of the day made it 28-7 before the half as he got in from three yards out.

The Orediggers scored first again in the third quarter as a long Mayberry breakout set up Brandon Farmer's eight-yard scoring run with 9:44 left. The Eagles pulled closer late in the third, however, with a field goal block leading to an 80-yard Cole Thurness pass. Mines foiled the two-point conversion on Logan Clift's backfield tackle, however, to make the score 35-20.

Mines tacked on two more scores in the fourth quarter as Farmer got an 11-yard tote to start the period, and Mayberry punctuated the win with a 43-yard breakout with 1:51 remaining to make it 49-20.
