Box Score ST. GEORGE, Utah - Colorado School of Mines pounded out 10 runs in a five-inning, 10-2 win over Northwest Nazarene to start their weekend at the Dixie State Easton Classic.
The Orediggers (3-3) supported a solid start by
Claire Stringfellow (1-2), who earned the win allowing only one run through four innings.
Mines went up big to start the game thanks to a five-run first inning.
Katie Leiker started it off with a two-run single before
Boston Ludlow tripled in two more, and
Pua Fujinaga's sacrifice fly made it 5-0. NNU got a run back in the third when Anna Williams doubled in Cassidy Fifield, but
Sonoma Toot and
Clara Larson each homered in the bottom of the fourth to set Mines' lead at 8-1.
Kylie Orr singled in a run for NNU in the fifth but Mines walked it off with the eight-run margin in the bottom of the inning as
Kara Jones singled in Ludlow and
Brielle Asato scored when Toot reached on an error.
Stringfellow struck out three in facing 18 batters.
Hallie Smith got the hold allowing one run on two hits in the fifth. Rae Young (1-2) took the loss allowing six earned for NNU over four innings, with Jackie Vargas pitching the fifth and allowing two runs.
NOTABLES
- Eight different Orediggers recorded a hit, including each of the first seven batters on the lineup card.
- With a 1-for-3 day, Leiker moved to 97 career hits.
- Toot extended her reached-base streak to 19 games going 2-for-4 with two runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Her home run was her first of the season.
- Larson's home run was her third of the season and 13th of her career.
- Mines has hit nine homers in six games, with six different Orediggers going yard.
- Ludlow's triple was the first of the year by an Oredigger.
- Mines was efficient in getting its runners across the plate, leaving only three runners on base despite 10 hits, two walks, and four NNU errors.
- Mines has scored 10 or more runs in three of six games this season and five or more in five games.
