DENVER - After capping off an incredible career for Colorado School of Mines, senior Emily Garnier has been named the 2017 Colorado Sportswoman of the Year for NCAA Division II women's soccer.

Garnier - a repeat winner of the award - receives the state's D-II honor with University of Colorado's Jalen Tompkins winning the D-I honor and Portland Thorns and United State Women's National Team star Lindsay Horan taking the professional version. Garnier is a native of Littleton and graduate of D'Evelyn High School.

Garnier's postseason honors in 2017 included D2CCA and United Soccer Coaches' All-America nods, the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year honor, and First-Team All-RMAC distinction. She led NCAA Division II with 15 assists, and was named CoSIDA Academic All-District and RMAC First-Team All-Academic as she played nearly every minute of the season in the middle of the backline. Mines allowed only 0.55 goals and 5.3 shots per game. Garnier also became only the third player in program history - joining Anna Evans and Megan Woodworth - to be a four-time all-region selection. She joins Evans and Kelsey Neal as the program's only three-time all-Americans, and her five total nods ties Evans for the program record.

She is the second Oredigger to earn the award - along with Woodworth in 2012 - and the first to repeat as the winner. She will be honored along with 56 other recipients from various sports at the 44th Annual Sportswoman of Colorado Awards banquet on March 11 at the Denver Marriott Tech Center.
