DENVER - Regis silenced Colorado School of Mines' bats as they took two from the Orediggers on Sunday to wrap up their RMAC series.
The Orediggers (10-10, 4-4 RMAC) fell by scores of 10-2 and 11-2, both in five innings.
Kara Jones carried over her hot hitting from Saturday, driving in two runs in game two. For the series she hit .600 and slugged .900 with four RBI.
GAME 1 - Regis 10, Mines 2 (5 inn.)
Crooked numbers by Regis in the third and fourth innings gave them a 10-2 run-rule victory to start the day over Mines.
The Orediggers got out to an early lead thanks to
Loren Dempsey's RBI double in the second to plate
Katie Leiker, but the Rangers would scored four in the third to take control of the game thanks to two-run base hits from Analece Apodaca and Lauren Hernandez. The home side extended their lead in the fourth as Melissa Heronema cleared the bases with a three-run double before Apodaca singled her in and Emily John's sacrifice fly made it 9-1.
Mines pulled a run back in the fifth when
Pua Fujinaga reached on an error, allowing
Brielle Asato to score, but Jaiden Johnson ended things in the bottom of the fifth when she also reached on an error to bring the game-ending run home.
Logan Losh (6-4) did not allow an earned run and struck out five in the win. Mines combined three pitchers with starter
Maddie Rogers (2-2) taking the decision despite six strikeouts.
Kylie Redding threw an inning of relief and
Claire Stringfellow ended the game.
GAME 2 - Regis 11, Mines 2 (5 inn.)
Regis went ahead early with runs in each of their first three at-bats in an 11-2 win in the series finale.
The Orediggers couldn't dig out of a 9-0 hole after two innings despite
Kara Jones' two-run double to the gap to score
Clara Larson and
Katie Leiker. Mines had fallen behind on Jaiden Johnson's lead-off home run and RBI doubles by Emily John and Lauren Hernandez in the first along with Delaney McGinn's two-run bomb. In the second Regis scored on an error before John launched a three-run home run.
Regis tacked on two more runs in the third to set the nine-run margin as Melissa Heronema singled in Johnson and Analece Apodaca reached on an error to score Heronema.
Taylor Armitage (5-4) went the distance for Regis allowing two earned.
Hallie Smith (3-4) allowed five earned in an inning of work with
Claire Stringfellow giving up six runs but only one earned in three innings of relief.
