Orediggers Bow Out Of RMAC Tournament

5/3/2018 11:44:00 PM

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Chadron State outlasted Colorado School of Mines, 3-2, in an elimination game to end Mines' RMAC Tournament and season on Thursday night.

The Orediggers (28-26) tried mightily to dig back from a 3-0 hole but ran out of time in their comeback attempt.

In a pitchers' duel between Sydney Marchando and Jessica Jarecki, runs were at a premium early. Chadron State took an early lead on Kayla Michel's first-inning double to score an unearned run and go up 1-0; it would remain that way until the fifth when Bailynn Meek's two-run homer extended the Eagle lead to 3-0.

Mines' bats were held to a single hit through the first five innings but awoke in the sixth to score two runs. After Sonoma Toot reached on an error, consecutive singles by Clara Larson and Kara Jones brought in the first run, and Pua Fujinaga's single later in the inning allowed Larson to score to cut it to 3-2.

Hallie Smith entered the game to throw a 1-2-3 sixth inning, but Jarecki put the Orediggers down in order in the seventh to preserve the win.

Marchando (1-3) struck out five in allowing seven hits and two earned. Jarecki fanned 11 allowing four hits and one earned run.
