Kendall's Goal Lifts #7 Mines Over CMU

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Jennifer Kendall's 77th-minute goal lifted #7 Colorado School of Mines to a deserved 1-0 victory at Colorado Mesa.

The Orediggers (5-0-1, 2-0-0 RMAC) extended their scoreless run to six matches this season as Shannon Mooney made four saves and the defense surrendered just six shots overall. The Mavericks (3-2-1, 1-1-0 RMAC) were kept in it by a five-save performance from Janelle Richmond-Buccola as Mines outshot CMU 16-6.

Mines controlled long stretches of possession, but couldn't find a finish in the first half despite two good looks for Kendall and Kaylee Kennedy's hard shot on goal just before the break. Emma Peterson's long-range look to start the second half was well-saved by Richmond-Buccola, and Peyton Sanders had an open goal in front of her but couldn't settle a high cross as she headed wide in the 52nd minute.

The breakthrough game in the waning minutes thanks to Kendall. The senior took a loose ball at midfield and split the two center backs to find herself in a one-on-one with Richmond-Buccola; Kendall slotted home on the breakaway from 25 yards out for the eventual winner.

CMU had a late chance to tie the game on an 88th-minute corner that was scooped up by Mooney, and Mines held possession the rest of the way to secure their second RMAC win.
