RAPID CITY, S.D. – The #24-ranked Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team swept passed South Dakota Mines Friday night behind 10 service aces as the Orediggers extended their winning streak to six straight matches.
Hannah Martin paced Mines with a match-high 10 kills and four service aces.
Abby Tiesman was not far behind her teammate, recording nine kills and three aces.
Taylor Hicken also turned in a nine-kill performance while hitting .353.
Drew Stokes' 33 assists and
Elle Duis' 15 digs capped off a balanced evening for the Orediggers.
As a team, Mines (12-2, 6-0 RMAC) hit just .163 but held South Dakota Mines (3-10, 1-4 RMAC) even lower at .085. The Orediggers limited the RMAC kills leader Dana Thompson to just eight in the match. Mines outperformed the Hardrockers in every offensive category.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines jumped out two a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-20 win in set one and 25-18 win in set two. The Orediggers hit .324 in the opening game and .270 right before intermission. Martin, Hicken and
Janice Jin combined for 21 kills as Mines appeared poised for victory.
However, South Dakota Mines came out of the intermission ready to rally. A back-and-forth set saw the Hardrockers take a late lead, 19-16. Coming out of a timeout, Mines rallied to tie the set 20-20 thanks to a pair of SDSMT errors and a kill from Martin.
A battle ensued for the final points with eight ties and three lead changes down the stretch. The Orediggers would prevail thanks to a Hicken kill and a Hardrocker miscue as Mines took the final set, 28-26.
