THE WEEK AHEAD
After nearly three weeks away, #5 Colorado School of Mines returns to Stermole Stadium for Homecoming weekend to host a pair of RMAC games, welcoming Fort Lewis on Friday and Adams State on Sunday. Both games are the front end of doubleheaders, with the men's team playing MSU Denver Friday and Colorado Christian on Sunday.
OREDIGGERS START RMAC PLAY 4-0
Mines is out to a perfect start to RMAC play after road wins over CSU-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands last weekend. Mines beat a game CSUP side 2-1 as
Jennifer Kendall and
Acacia Ortiz scored less than four minutes apart in the second half; at NMHU, first-half goals by
Emily Townsend and
Hannah Stoner were all Mines needed as the defense limited the Cowgirls to only one shot on goal.
IN THE POLLS
Mines moved up two spots to #5 in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll. It is Mines' first time in the top five of the poll since 2016, when the Orediggers peaked at #3 in week 6. It is the 42nd time that Mines has received a top-10 ranking since 2009; since the start of the 2013 season, the Orediggers have been nationally ranked in 56 of a possible 64 polls.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Orediggers have not played at Stermole Stadium since Sept. 9, having gone on a five-game, 3,830-mile road trip and coming back 4-1-0 in that span. Mines has won seven straight games at home and has not conceded a goal at home in that span.
MINES VS. FORT LEWIS AND ADAMS STATE
Mines is 13-7-1 all-time against Fort Lewis, having won three in a row and nine of the last 10 against the Skyhawks. Mines routed FLC 6-0 in last year's regular-season finale, which included goals by current Orediggers
Jennifer Kendall and
Audrey Shin. Mines is 11-2-1 all-time against Adams State, having not lost to the Grizzlies since 2005. Last year's 5-0 win against ASU included goals by Kendall and Lindsey Torneben as Mines took 39 shots in a snowy late-season game.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Fort Lewis has had a terrific start to the season, going 4-2-1 overall but still a perfect 3-0-0 in RMAC play having beaten Black Hills State, Regis (in overtime) and Adams State. The Skyhawks are riding three straight shutouts in front of goalkeeper Britt Blomso (1.17/.765). Renee Terrell is FLC's offensive leader with three goals, while Emma Patron leads with three assists and Katie Smith and Dylan Barker each have a pair of goals. Adams State is 2-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in RMAC play with their lone win coming over Black Hills State. The Grizzlies have a healthy offense – averaging 2.43 goals per game – but are giving up 2.71. Diana Cerillo and Natalie Wheelock lead the team with four goals apiece.
