SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -
Chaney Brugman's first-half goal was all #16 Colorado School of Mines needed to dispatch Westminster in a defensive 1-0 game.
The Orediggers (10-1-1, 6-0-1 RMAC) edged the Griffins (5-3-2, 2-3-1 RMAC) 9-7 on shots but let only one get on goal as the defense extended its scoreless run to four straight matches.
Mines withstood early Westminster possession and broke through in the 20th minute when crisp passing by
Kaylee Kennedy and
Nicole LaTourette led to Brugman's low left finish for the lead.
Griffins goalkeeper Hillary Weixler was equal to Mines' three other shots on goal, but the Orediggers didn't break through again. WC had just one shot on a goal - an easy long-range effort by Sarah Reiber scooped up by
Shannon Mooney - but their best chance was a hit crossbar by Bailey Kroll with 7:44 left in regulation.
