Volleyball Suffers Road Loss at #12 Regis

DENVER – The Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team suffered a three-set loss on Friday at the hands of #12-ranked Regis inside Regis Fieldhouse.

Lindsey Jin was tops for the Orediggers thanks to nine kills and only two attacking errors. Elle Duis stood out as well, producing 10 digs, four assists and three service aces for Mines. Also on the attack were Abby Tiesman and Rose Stuewe combining for 14 kills. Tiesman also accounted for the Orediggers' lone block in the match.

Mines (15-5, 7-4 RMAC) did produce four service aces overall and collected 30 digs at 10 digs per set, but only managed to hit .133 on the night. On the other side of the net, Regis (17-3, 11-1 RMAC) hit over .400 as a team and tallied 10 total blocks in the match. The sweep keeps the Rangers at #1 in the RMAC standings while Mines drops into fifth place for the time being.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The backdrop for Friday's showdown included brushstrokes of the colors of fall, cool temperatures and clear skies framing Regis Fieldhouse just outside downtown Denver. Inside, the old, brick building the hosting Rangers used to opening set to prove why they came in ranked #12 in the nation, converting on the attack at .625 with three blocks in a 25-13 win. The Orediggers' lone bright spot in the first game came in the form of Tiesman who smacked down four kills at a clip of .500 as well as Elle Duis's five digs.

Mines rebounded and turned the second round into an all-out battle, forcing 14 ties and eight lead changes in the second frame alone. Both teams nearly went point-for-point until a two-point, home-team lead at 19-17 forced an Oredigger timeout. Unfortunately for the visitors, Regis came out of the break hot and put together a 6-3 to clinch the set and a commanding 2-0 lead. In the final set, Mines stuck with the Rangers early but it wasn't meant to be as Regis defended its home court on a 25-16, match-clinching win.
